The Beauty of the Recession

No need to spend a pile of money on marble or oil paints to create masterpieces when there’s a perfectly good roll of packing tape sitting on the shelf. Tape sculptor/portrait artist, Mark Khaisman has taken this line of thinking and created striking portraits, as well as scenes from movies, using packing tape, plexiglass and light boxes.
Khaisman compares his art to both paintings and stained glass pieces, tying in elements of light, as well as pieces of tape as “brush strokes.” By strategically layering each piece of tape, subtle shades are created. Without the light, the tape takes shape, but once the shapes are illuminated, they come to life.
