For the District 9 campaign, we wanted to create a look that emulated the gritty, realistic feel of the movie, so we took a more guerrilla approach: shooting our own footage to integrate into our graphics.
We called in our special team of cameramen and photographers, (two of our associates armed with the necessary equipment) and they captured some great footage and photographs of the District 9 billboards and bill posts throughout the city. Those elements were then combined with promotional D9 material, and dirtied up a bit to add to the realism.
Below are the original photos of the advertisements, and what they became. On the left are the untouched photos of the District 9 ads, and the images on the right-hand side are the final results, featured in the District 9 trailer.
