From concept stage on, we incorporated some unique ways to visualize what the final product would be, creating an early cut of the piece constructed from iPhone-shot footage. This proved highly beneficial (and fun!), as it helped us build a structure before any graphics had been created.
An incredibly tight turnaround time required us to conduct a special Motion Capture shoot. The MoCap data gathered from the shoot was then applied to our character rigs, and integrated with the rest of the hand-animated elements of the project.
This game marks the first time a SOCOM installment has specifically highlighted main and supporting characters by name, so the piece was to emphasize our hero, Cullen Gray (OpsCom). We achieved this by creating a storyline that featured the entire team of SEALs, but really allowed him to shine as the leader.
